Ayala enrolled at Brooklyn Technical High School and attended from 1976 to 1980. In 1984, he graduated with a B.A. in Television and Radio Journalism from Ithaca College. Additionally, he pursued legal studies and obtained a J.D. in Law from New York Law School in 1988. He is an Emmy Award-winning media personality and lawyer with a wealth of experience in journalism spanning over 20 years. Presently, he serves as the anchor for Court TV Live! from 6-8 pm every weeknight on the Courtroom Television Network. His journey in journalism began at the Courtroom Television Network just a year after its inception in 1993. In his current role, he leads a team responsible for producing two hours of daily legal news programming, focusing on live courtroom cases and legal developments nationwide.

Before joining Court TV, he led MIA Media Services (formerly MIA Media Group), a media services company specializing in communication solutions for broadcast and web-based initiatives. Under his guidance, MIA Media Group transitioned from a general services media production company to MIA Media Services, concentrating solely on health-related programming. This included producing and moderating live and online programs, facilitating discussions with thought leaders in the medical community, and directing audience interaction. In addition to that, he collaborated closely with marketing and legal departments to ensure compliance and effective messaging.

He also collaborated with top companies in the field, such as Platform Q, XYVid, Pfizer, Boehringer Ingelheim, Amgen, and Lundbeck, enhancing the efficacy of internal and global peer-to-peer communications. His work included campaigns for drugs like Fycompa, Pradaxa, and Viibryd. Starting his career as an attorney in New York City, he initially worked part-time at the emerging Courtroom Television Network before transitioning to a full-time role. Moreover, he has also held reporter and anchor positions for CBS in both Chicago and Washington D.C.
