Lauren Green Biography

Lauren Green is an American anchor working for FOX NEWS as a Chief Religion Correspondent. She joined the FOX news team in 1996, after previously working for WBBM-TV.

Lauren Green Career

Green holds a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the University of Minnesota (1980) and pursued graduate studies at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Raised in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, she is a practicing Christian. She won the Miss Minnesota pageant and was the third runner-up in the Miss America 1985 pageant. In the music video for Prince’s 1992 song “My Name Is Prince,” she played a news anchor, using her name. Additionally, in 2011, she raised questions about Islam, asking whether it makes believers more susceptible to radicalization.

Her 2013 interview with Iranian-American scholar Reza Aslan, promoting his book “Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth,” faced criticism for what some deemed as dumb, loaded, and prejudicial questions. Aslan defended his scholarly interest in the topic, while Green continued pressing him. Erik Wemple of The Washington Post criticized her questions, and Daniel Politi of Slate considered it a cringe-worthy interview on Fox News. In 2004, she released the album “Classic Beauty,” featuring classical piano music. She also played keyboards for Mike Huckabee’s band, The Little Rockers, on the Fox News program Huckabee.

In January 2014, she performed in the 90th birthday concert for Georg Ratzinger, the brother of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, describing it as the honor of a lifetime in an opinion piece for Fox News. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, she advocated for churches that defied court orders to stop large gatherings. In a Fox News editorial published on March 15, she featured a stock photo of people holding hands, contrary to CDC guidelines at the time. The article referred to measures like handwashing, sanitizing homes, and social distancing as “temporary or flimsy barriers to a raging tsunami” and argued against closing churches, stating that it seemed like a surrender to Satan.

In one Fox News piece, she interviewed Louisiana pastor Tony Spell, asserting that the fundamental right to freedom of religion in the United States is sacrosanct. Spell claimed that church closings were politically motivated, and he asserted that through faith, his church members had been “healed of HIV and cancer—diseases bigger than COVID-19.”
