Ben Napier Home Town

January 24, 2016: Ben and Erin’s show Home Town premiered on HGTV. In HGTV’s “Home Town,” Napier and Erin live and restore homes in the quaint town of Laurel, Mississippi. Napier, a woodworker, author, and entrepreneur holding a degree in history, is deeply committed to the preservation and renovation of historic homes. The series follows the couple as home-buying families benefit from Erin’s design expertise, her creative house portraits, and Napier’s construction skills, woodworking proficiency, and custom renovations often featuring local and reclaimed materials. The success of “Home Town” has led to spinoffs such as “Home Town Takeover” and “Home Town Kickstart.”

The couple, Ben and Erin Napier, commenced dating and later tied the knot in 2008. Opting to make their home in Erin’s hometown of Laurel, Mississippi, they attracted notice for their transformation of a 1925 craftsman cottage into a captivating residence. HGTV took notice of their renovation skills, reaching out to the pair and eventually premiering their show, “Home Town,” in 2016.

Erin And Ben Napier Dream Home In The Mississippi Countryside

Erin Napier had driven past her dream house countless times, but she’d never actually seen it. During that period, Erin was in the final month of her pregnancy with her second daughter, Mae, who is now a year old. Their eldest, Helen, was 3 at the time. The Napier family found their downtown Laurel residence, particularly with family and friends visiting, starting to feel cramped. Napier and Erin had previously discussed the idea of acquiring a weekend retreat in the countryside—a space where the kids could freely play, indulge in gardening activities, and perhaps enjoy occasional fishing, especially since Helen was a fan of the activity.

Having spearheaded numerous renovations for their well-known HGTV shows, “Home Town” and “Home Town Takeover,” the Napiers naturally viewed their residence as a project. While the house required improvements such as a more functional kitchen, a new laundry room, and enhancements to the outdoor spaces, its core structure was solid. Built-in 1930, the home featured substantial heart-pine beams, wide plank floors, tongue-and-groove paneling, and custom millwork, rendering it both charming and robust.

The residence boasts a captivating history. Its original owner, a World War I veteran, developed a profound appreciation for English architecture during his time in England. Notably, he excelled as a chicken farmer, a detail that instantly resonated with Erin. In addition to his farming success, he gained notoriety as a prosperous moonshiner. To accommodate his clandestine activities, he constructed hidden compartments within the house to store alcohol and ingeniously used a concrete ramp to discreetly bring vehicles into the basement.

In a special episode of Home Town Season 6 aired last December, Napier and Erin unveiled the house and shared their renovation journey. The concluding moment featured the completed project, which was revealed to their mothers, who had been kept in the dark throughout the renovation process, adding an element of surprise and emotional significance to the grand reveal.
