Cagle went to McAllen Memorial High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and political science from the University of Southern California. She began her career at NBC News in 2009, assisting NBC Nightly News correspondents and producers with live shots and taped packages, including shoots at Camp Pendleton, Neverland Ranch, and The Staples Center. From there she got a job as an executive producer at Annenberg TV News. Kate then served as a morning reporter for most of my time at KPSP, a CBS affiliate station in Palm Springs. There, she led the station’s coverage of the largest gang crackdown in Riverside County history, technological changes at the Marine Corps base in Twentynine Palms, and visits by Condoleezza Rice and Laura Bush. She also field-anchored coverage of former First Lady Betty Ford’s funeral.
After KPSP was purchased by News-Press Gazette, Kate joined KESQ in Palm Springs and briefly worked there as a reporter and weekend anchor. As a reporter for the No. 1 morning show on KPTV Fox 12, in Portland, Oregon Area, Kate did nine live shots during the 4.5-hour newscast. There, she covered high-profile stories such as the Reynolds High School shooting and the Kyron Horman missing child case. After three years in Portland, Kate relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she worked as a multimedia journalist at KRON-TV.
