Jon Schoenheider is an American anchor working for WEEK 25 as a weekday morning show on 25 News and a weekend anchor. He joined the WEEK 25 news team in January 2022, after previously working for HOI-ABC.

Schoenheider attended Loyola Academy in Wilmette and graduated in 2015. He moved on to Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a broadcasting focus, along with a minor in Business. He revitalized the prominence of broadcasting within the school’s Communications department by establishing Hope’s inaugural Broadcasting Club. The club, with its campus web show ‘The Dutch Angle,’ provided students with the opportunity to gain comprehensive insights into the production of a successful show, both on and off-camera.
The club’s triumph ultimately led to the reintroduction of full-credit classes on the subject, filling a void that had persisted for years. During his time at Hope, he served as an intern at WGN television in Chicago. Assuming the role of producer for a new show hosted by Larry Potash, the nation’s longest-serving morning anchor, he worked on ‘Backstory.’ This show delved into the captivating history of Chicago and other American locales by taking viewers to various locations. ‘Backstory’ remains in production, consistently expanding its audience with each new season.
Following his graduation from Hope in 2019, he embarked on his professional broadcasting career by relocating to his father’s hometown of Peoria to work at WEEK-TV. Initially, he produced the 10:00 p.m. newscasts for Heart of Illinois ABC and later transitioned to a full-time role producing the station’s morning show, Good Morning Illinois. In January 2022, he shifted to reporting during the daytime, drawing on his comprehensive experience both behind the scenes and in the studio.
On weekends, he assumed the role of anchor for Heart of Illinois ABC in the evening, handling both anchoring and production duties for multiple broadcasts. After the merger of 25News and Heart of Illinois ABC, he took on the weekend anchor position at the newly combined station. In March 2023, he returned to the morning slot, becoming an anchor for 25News Today. This transition at WEEK-TV marked a historic milestone, as he became the first staff member to advance from a producer to a full-time anchor during their tenure. The Illinois News Broadcasters Association recognized his contributions by acknowledging him as the Runner-Up for Best Small Market Reporter in 2023.
