Robin Roberts is an American television broadcaster working for Good Morning America (GMA) as a morning anchor from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. She joined the GMA news team in 1995, after previously working for ESPN.

Roberts attended Pass Christian High School and graduated as the class of 1979 salutatorian. She then went to Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, graduating in 1983 with a degree in communication. In February 1990, she began working as a sportscaster for ESPN, a position she held until 2005. She used “Go on with your bad self!” as her slogan on SportsCenter. In June 1995, Roberts started working for ABC News, mostly as a featured reporter for Good Morning America, and contributed to Good Morning America and ESPN while she was employed there.
She worked mostly as GMA’s news anchor during that time. In 2005, Roberts received a promotion to co-anchor Good Morning America. George Stephanopoulos replaced Roberts as co-host of GMA in December 2009, following Diane Sawyer’s departure to anchor ABC World News. Together, Roberts and Stephanopoulos took Good Morning America back to the top of the ratings; in April 2012, the show surpassed NBC’s Today, which had topped the charts for the previous sixteen years, to reclaim its position as the top morning program. Her hometown of Pass Christian was particularly heavily struck by Hurricane Katrina, with her former high school reduced to rubble.
Roberts anchors a series of emotional reports from the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the fall of 2005. She served as the host of ABC’s Academy Awards preshow on February 22, 2009, and she repeated the role in 2011. Roberts had an appearance as a guest star in “Can You See the Real Me?”, the tenth episode of season four of Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel in 2010. She drove the 2010 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car on May 30, 2010. Roberts was honored with a 2012 induction into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame for her broadcasting efforts and overall impact on the sport of women’s basketball. Roberts was included in ESPNW’s Impact 25 list for 2014.
Roberts co-anchored Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor on May 19, 2018. After Alex Trebek passed away in November 2020, Roberts hosted five special episodes of Jeopardy! from July 19–23, 2021. Roberts is the host of the Disney+ interview series Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts, which debuted in 2021.

At the wedding, the violinist performed a medley of their favorite songs: the gospel hymn “Blessed Assurance,” “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong, and “Chiquitita” by Abba, in honor of Roberts’ mother Lucimarian Tolliver, who passed away in 2012, her father Col. Lawrence Roberts, who passed away in 2004, and Ms. Laign’s father Paul Laign, who passed away in 2020.
Moreover, the couple married in front of a bench, which is engraved with Roberts’ mother’s name, was decorated with flowers, to commemorate her mother, who had read devotionals to the couple there. The yard was also adorned with moss as a nod to Ms. Roberts’s roots in Mississippi.
