Gia Vang is an American Emmy Award-winning anchor working for KNTV as an evening anchor at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. alongside co-anchor Terry McSweeney. She joined the NBC Bay Area news team in 2000, after previously working for KARE-TV (NBC).
Gia Vang Career
Born in Modesto, California, and raised in Sacramento, Vang attended Sacramento State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. Vang came from KARE-TV (NBC) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she was employed since 2019 as a news anchor for the station’s Sunrise program. Her coverage of several national stories included the Kim Potter trial, the historic Olympic Games of Suni Lee, and the Derek Chauvin trial.
Along with veteran journalist Michelle Li, who has won numerous awards, Vang formed the Very Asian Foundation, becoming the first Hmong-American news anchor in a major media market. Highlighting Asian American experiences and assisting groups serving the AAPI community are the goals of the Very Asian Foundation.
In addition to her journalism career, Vang previously worked as an anchor and reporter on other television stations including at KMPH-TV (FOX)/KFRE-TV (CW) in Fresno, California, WDAF-TV (FOX) in Kansas City, Missouri, and KPNX-TV (NBC) in Phoenix, AZ, for two years.
