Pete Gallivan is an American news anchor working for WGRZ-TV as a Daybreak anchor. He joined the WGRZ-TV news team in 1996, after previously working for WROC-TV.
Gallivan graduated from the Buffalo Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts after attending Buffalo Public Schools. Following high school, he majored in Communications from The College at Brockport. Pete currently produces a weekly show called “Unknown Stories of WNY” that explains local history in addition to his duties as an anchor.
Gallivan secured his first journalism career in 1987 at a small, day-timer radio station in Brockport. In addition, he later worked as a sales, disc jockey, and finally became News Director at WASB-TV. Pete, a native of Brockport, made appearances on local radio in Rochester, Warsaw, and Canandaigua. He first became interested in visual storytelling while working as a reporter for WHEC-TV and then WROC-TV in Rochester.
Pete returned home to Buffalo in 1996, joined WGRZ-TV, and has been a general assignment reporter, weekend anchor, and Daybreak anchor since then. Moreover, he has won 2 New York Emmys, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, and an Associated Press Award. He was also part of the Daybreak team that won an Emmy for best morning newscast.
