Sheli Muñiz Biography
Sheli Muñiz is an American Emmy award-winning anchor working for NBC6 during the evening newscasts at 12 pm, and 4 pm alongside Roxanne Vargas. She joined the WTVJ team in December 2015, as a 5 am and 6 am anchor.
Sheli Muñiz Career
Prior to joining the NBC6 news team, Muñiz worked at WKMG-News 6 (CBS) in Orlando, Florida where she served as an anchor and reporter. While she worked for WKMG, her stories gained national attention. Some of the stories she covered include; a mother of three accused of driving her children into the Atlantic, a sinkhole that swallowed a man in his Seffner home, and the George Zimmerman murder trial. In addition, Sheli reported in Cuba for a week during the summer of 2015, when the U.S. and Cuba policies changed.
Muñiz love for television started while in her elementary school library in Georgia where they had a makeshift studio. She served as the morning show anchor at the studio, and she covered hard-hitting stories such as the lunch menu. Later on, Sheli attended the University of Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications. In addition, she also studied at Florida International University where she earned a Master’s degree in global strategic communications in 2021.
After having graduated, Muñiz worked at WRDW in Augusta, Georgia where she served as a reporter, and not long after she was promoted to serving as a weekend anchor. Muñiz did an exclusive interview with an accused serial rapist who was the leader of many agencies on a three-county manhunt. For her interview, she received recorgnition from The Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
Furthermore, Sheli received a Georgia AP Broadcasters Award for “Best Feature Reporting”. For Muñiz’s coverage of the 2019 historic protests in Puerto Rico, she received an Emmy award in 2020. Together with her former co-anchor Eric Harryman, they were awarded a Florida AP Broadcaster award for “Outstanding News Anchor Team”. During her free time, she enjoys eating at restaurants.
