Prior to coming to Baltimore, Kawata resided in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where she worked for WMBF as the morning reporter. Before working for WMBF, she worked in Las Vegas at KSNV where she served as a production assistant. While she was in Myrtle Beach, she covered Hurricanes Dorian and Florence, and in addition, she highlighted the community’s recovery and flood mitigation efforts. A number of her other career highlights include; following Horry County’s efforts to fight the growing opioid crisis, shining a light on the health community, and the growth of South Carolina’s booming hemp industry.
Furthermore, she has served as the host of a weekly entertainment segment featuring touring artists and performers in town.
