Barbara Gibbs Biography
Barbara Gibbs is an American anchor working for ABC11 as the co-anchor of the 10 a.m. newscast alongside John Clark, Kim Deaner, and meteorologist Kweilyn Murphy. She joined the ABC 11 news team in 2001.
Memphis, Tennessee is where Gibbs was born and brought up and her family later relocated to Texas and New Jersey before later settling in Alabama. She attended Auburn University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a minor in sociology. Barbara did a feature story for “Homeless Singers;” about three homeless men in Raleigh who desired to be gospel singers. For her feature story, she received an Emmy for best feature story in 2008, from the Nashville Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Gibbs did a second feature story “Barbara Gibbs’ Little Valentine,” for which she earned a second Emmy nomination. A number of her most memorable experiences include; meeting “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts in New York City with a Durham breast cancer survivor. In addition, she met a young mother with cystic fibrosis who survived giving birth and a double-lung transplant. Barbara was honored to tell the story of a soldier who built a house for free for a triple amputee Iraq war soldier and his wife.
Furthermore, she is actively involved in the community and she takes part in raising money for pediatric cancer research. She also takes part in a number of fundraising events benefiting groups ranging from; the American Cancer Society, MDA, and Building Together Ministries. Prior to joining ABC 11, Gibbs worked for WTVQ (Lexington, KY) where she served as a morning anchor and reporter. Later on, she relocated to Roanoke, Virginia where she served as the co-anchor of the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscast. In addition, during her spare time, she enjoys; traveling, watching college football (WAR EAGLE), and going home to be with family and friends.
