Bill Kelly Biography
Bill Kelly is an American meteorologist working for CBS 3 as the chief meteorologist and he can be seen on weeknights at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. He joined the CBS NEXT Weather Team in January 2023.
Kelly receives national recognition for his segments, Weather on the Go. Over the years, Bill has received many awards for his creative and innovative at-home studio in which he has a fully functioning chromakey wall. He also has outdoor live areas that utilize augmented reality graphics. In addition, Bill has assisted in developing company-wide weather protocols while serving in leadership roles in corporations. He has also served as the speaker of the member’s annual meeting of the National Weather Association.
Furthermore, Kelly previously worked in stations in Columbus, Ohio, Spokane, Washington, Phoenix, Arizona, and Washington D.C. where he served as the Chief Meteorologist. Bill attended California State University in Sacramento where he graduated with a degree in Broadcast News Communications. In addition, he also attended Mississippi State University where he completed the respected two-year Broadcast Meteorology program. For more than 20 years, Bill has been an active and certified member of the National Weather Association.
Over the years, Kelly has received recognition for his work with; 6 Associated Press awards, 12 Emmy awards, a regional Edward R. Murrow award for technological innovation, and he was voted in both the Phoenix Magazine and Columbus Monthly as the Best Weathercaster. In addition, Kelly has been a guest on ABC’s Good Morning America twelve times and on the network’s World News Tonight four times.
